Highland Grove Shopping Center offers great restaurants and retail shopping. Stores featured in the shopping center include Michael’s, Best Buy, Dick’s Sporting Goods, Petco, Kohl’s, Office Max to name a few. Restaurants include Potbelly Sandwich Shop, Qdoba Mexican Grill, Panda Express and many more.
You can’t drive through Highland and not stop at the legendary Johnson's Blue Top Drive-in. Stop in for a huge burger and a killer shake. You might even catch a glimpse of some classic cars while you’re there!
Parks and Recreation
Highland’s Parks and Recreation Department has 22 public parks including the Field House which features four full court basketball courts, a walking track, and single and double sized community rooms available for public programs and rentals.
Wicker Memorial Park Golf Course is a par 72, 18-hole golf course with private green, tree-lined fairways, and driving range. There’s also a pro shop on site with a full service bar. Wicker Park additionally offers picnic facilities with picnic tables, grills, an available pavilion for groups of up to 400, and multiple shelters. Banquet facilities for available for special gatherings like weddings and family reunions.
According to City-Data.com the median household income for Highland homes from a 2009 study shows an income of $58,742 compared to $45,424 for all of Indiana.
Median home values for Highland in the same time frame were $155,966 compared to $123,100 for the rest of the state.

There are three Amtrak stations near Highland, located in Dyer on Sheffield Rd, Hammond-Whiting located on 1135 Calumet Ave, and in Homewood located at 181 1st St and Park Ave.
