Prepping Your House for Sale

If you’re thinking about selling your home, there are some ways you can prepare and make the process go smoothly. Many times, a home’s appeal lies in its presentation. Here are some tips to make the most of your home. Call The Jana Caudill Team if you have any questions!

Fix Up the Outside

First impressions are important in real estate. No matter how beautiful the inside of your home is, it’s the outside of your home that will initially draw in buyers. Everything should be spotlessly clean and well-maintained. Complete all of the basics, including mowing your lawn, removing weeds, and fixing up fencing or siding. There are plenty of ways to beautify your home, such as getting landscaping done or planting some flowers, that are worth your time.

Declutter and Depersonalize

One of the first things you should do on the inside of your home is to give every room a thorough decluttering. No one wants to walk into an open house to see lots of stuff lying around. After all, prospective buyers want to be able to imagine their family living in the home, and that’s hard to do when you have pictures and personal items everywhere. Store your photos and belongings somewhere safe for the time being to boost your home’s appeal.

Deep Clean

You want your home to be welcoming, so a deep clean is in order. You need every surface of your home to be sparkling clean! Remove carpet stains and take care of unpleasant odors. There should be absolutely no dust or dirt anywhere because you don’t want to lose the interest of any potential buyers. Obviously, this can be quite the time investment, so try to get as many friends and family members on board as you can. You might even consider hiring a professional cleaning team to take care of the worst areas. No matter what your strategy is, your home should be nothing short of spotless once this step is completed.

Repair or Remodel

In some cases, your home may need some updates. While it isn’t necessary to do a full-scale remodeling, consider upgrading some of your home’s features or replacing broken utilities. You can always sell your home as-is, but our team will determine what course of action will be most likely to get you the best possible price. At the very least, make sure there is noting unsightly in your home, such as water damage. Take care of any major repairs before you begin inviting buyers into your home.

Hire a Realtor

The best thing you can do before starting the selling process? Hire a realtor! Without a realtor, there may be many things that you miss along the way.
