Indiana Home Prices and Values Right Now: Very Hot

According to a market overview of the Indiana real estate market provided by Zillow, the real estate market in Indiana is “very hot” right now. In fact, home values in our state have skyrocketed by more than nine percent in the past twelve months. And that’s not all: home prices are expected to keep increasing in the future, with an additional five percent rise expected. 

Right now, the median price per square foot for a home in Indiana is $107, and the median price of listed homes for sale in Indiana is $189,900. The median home value (not the list price) is lower, though – $144,500. This discrepancy between the home value and the home price is indicative of market vitality and a booming real estate market. We are definitely in a sellers’ market right now!

What to Expect Moving Forward in 2019

Experts predict that Indiana homes will remain in high demand throughout the rest of the year, and likely moving into 2020 as well. However, while mortgage interest rates were at a record low rate in 2018–helping to fuel the housing demand–rising interest rates could slow buyer activity slightly. That being said, home prices are likely to keep increasing, the market will continue to remain a sellers’ market and buyers will keep wishing for more homes for sale, and first-time buyers will likely continue to dominate the market.
